Democracy v. Donald J. Trump
Democracy v. Donald J. Trump will be a curated series of 11 short films to be made by new, emerging, and established filmmakers. The project will bring together personal, original and genre-bending responses to Donald Trump’s attack on democracy in America. The films will celebrate the diversity, urgency and legitimacy of protest, and will be released in June 2028 ahead of the Presidential election.

Democracy v. Donald J. Trump will consist of 11 short films, each approximately three minutes long. It will bring together new, emerging and established filmmakers in a collective artistic response to the political crisis created by Donald Trump’s attack on democracy in America. The films may take any form, including poetry, song, animation, art film, games, mini-documentary, experimental work, conventional narrative, or monologue.
Rather than imposing a single style or argument, the programme invites individual, personal and original responses from each participating artist. Together, the films will form a many-voiced act of creative resistance. The project is rooted in the belief that art can challenge authoritarianism, defend democratic values and give shape to public protest. It also celebrates the diversity of legitimate protest, recognising that resistance can be serious, playful, poetic, angry, imaginative and deeply personal. Stingaree brings its international, experimental performance and film practice to the project, while Mama Quilla contributes its long-standing commitment to human rights and woman-led political theatre.
The films will be made under Trump’s America from June 2026 to June 2028, with release planned for June 2028 ahead of the Presidential election.
